The following incidents were reported by the Brecksville Police Department on Nov. 1 to 9. The information was compiled from police reports.
A fight leads to disorderly conduct and assault charges
A disagreement led to an assault charge at the American Legion on Nov. 9. At about 10:50 p.m., police were called to check on an allegedly intoxicated customer who was threatening a person working at the post. When the police got there, they found two men restraining the customer, who was shouting obscenities. The person who had been threatened said the customer, a 50-year-old Akron man, had pushed him down the steps. The customer in question made a counter statement at the station, saying that he had been “jumped” and that he was missing $80. He was charged with disorderly conduct and assault, and was told that he had been banned from the post.
Speeding leads to discovery of marijuana
Police found marijuana in the car of a speeding driver at 1:15 a.m. on Nov. 8. Police pulled the car over on Interstate 77 and could immediately smell marijuana in the car when talking to the driver, an 18-year-old Independence man. When asked about it, the driver said there was a small bag of marijuana in the glove box, which police quickly found. He was charged for possession of marijuana and for the speeding.
Police dog sniffs out marijuana
At 7:01 p.m. on Nov. 1, police spotted a car driving on the white line along the right shoulder of Interstate 77 and stopped the driver. The driver, a 23-year-old Akron man, was asked if there was anything wrong with the car, whether he was on the phone and whether there were drugs in the car. He answered no to all three questions.
But that wasn’t quite true. Police could smell burnt marijuana in the car and, soon, so could the police dog. There was a marijuana cigar in the ashtray. He was charged with possession of marijuana and for the marked lane violation.
