The Brecksville Police Department is getting six new police cars.

That’s after city officials weren’t “overly happy” with the Dodge Chargers the city bought last year.

City council approved the purchase of six new 2013 Ford Interceptors at about $23,000 per car.

Mayor Jerry Hurby told city council on Tuesday that there were some “issues” with the five Chargers the city bought last April. 

“We can hand them down to other departments,” he told council. “We used to replace vehicles every year, now we stagger (the purchases) and we’ve been able to save quite a bit of money.”

The total cost of the six new Fords is $139,050. 

In addition, council also passed a couple measures that will replace and/or transfer equipment to the new vehicles — as well as remove equipment from the other vehicles.

Council also gave the green light to spend $3,100 to post the city’s design and graphics on the vehicles.
