Brecksville Giant Eagle to Close

Employees will be offered a chance to move to the new Broadview Heights location, and company representatives say they are hopeful customers will do the same.

Giant Eagle officials have confirmed that the will close when a new store opens in Broadview Heights.

Corporate Spokesman Daniel Donovan said the new store will open in mid- to late-2012, and that the current plan is to close the nearby Brecksville store when the Broadview Heights one opens, Donovan said in an emailed statement.

The Broadview Heights’ store will also include a GetGo gas station with a convenience store and a car wash, according to the statement.

“We are confident that current Brecksville Giant Eagle shoppers will be very pleased with the improved shopping experience at the new Broadview Heights location,” Donovan said in the statement.

Mayor Jerry N. Hruby said he is disappointed that Giant Eagle will be leaving Brecksville, and because there has been little communication between the company and the city on this decision.

Frank LaRose, the city’s director of economic development, agreed that the move is disappointing, but that the location is an attractive one and he does not think it will take long to find a new occupant. LaRose is also the state senator for the 27th district.

In the statement from Giant Eagle, it was noted that all current employees at the Brecksville location will have the chance to move to the Broadview Heights store or another Giant Eagle location.
