Brecksville City Council appointed two new police officers during at .

The new officers, Michael Dodig and Jeff Golem, will begin training at the Kent State University police academy immediately, but it will be a while before residents see them on the street.

They’ll be in the academy until the end of May, said Police Chief Richard E. Mannarino. At that time, they’ll return to the for 14 to 16 weeks of field training. They should begin working on their own near the end of 2012.

“It is a long process,” said Mayor Jerry N. Hruby.

These officers are helping to fill the spots left by a number of retirements in recent years. Hruby said the department is hoping to add another officer before the end of the year.

Dodig and Golem’s training at the academy will be paid for by the city, and they will both immediately be placed on the payroll. Their starting salary is $52,796 per year.

Hruby told council members in the committee meeting that both men were “outstanding” candidates.
