Brecksville Kiwanis' Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra Concert Benefits Local Students

The money raised by the event is used for scholarships and gifts to the school district’s music departments.

The Kiwanis Club of Brecksville exists to give back to the community, and the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra concert it’s helping to host in November is no exception.

The concert, which is also being hosted by the Broadview Heights Kiwanis and the high school’s music department, raises money for the district’s music department and scholarships for students, said Doug Huth, a Kiwanis member who is overseeing the committee that’s putting on the concert.

The organization recently gave $1,000 to the high school music department and $500 to the middle school music department for the 2009 Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra concert, Huth said. There was some miscommunication that caused a delay. This year’s concert, which will be held on Nov. 17 at the high school, will also benefit the departments.

Money from the concert is also put into the Kiwanis Foundation, a 501-C3 that allows the group to collect donations and other funds to give out as scholarships.

The Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra is an audition-based group of more than 100 young adults from Ohio and western Pennsylvania, according to the group’s website.
