City Honors Soldier Who Died Overseas

The former police chief’s son died over the weekend.

Flags around Brecksville are flying at half-mast today in honor of soldier Dennis Kancler, who recently died. Kancler is the son of Brecksville’s former police chief, also named Dennis Kancler

WKYC-TV3 reported earlier today that the Marine died in Afghanistan over the weekend. The U.S. Department of Defense has not released any details at this time, but Brecksville Police Chief Richard E. Mannarino said the former chief contacted the department to let them know.

Mannarino said some members from the department went to pay their respects to the family after they heard. Kancler didn’t know any details when he spoke to the department.

Mannarino said the department will escort the family from the airport and from the funeral to the cemetery.

Any details local citizens can participate with? Are we going to line our streets with citizens with flags? Boy scout participation?
