Free Flower Show to be Held at the Community Center this Weekend

The event will include a range of exhibits for visitors.

Brecksville's bicentennial celebration continues this weekend with the “Red, White and Blooming” standard flower show.

The show will include a variety of displays from members of the Chippewa Garden Club and the Emerald Necklace Garden Club. The two local clubs are joining together on the show to celebrate Brecksville’s bicentennial, said Pat Gabriel, president of the Chippewa Garden Club

The clubs have been working on the show for nearly a year, Gabriel said, noting that it takes a “lot of time and energy” to put a show like this together. The Chippewa Garden Club usually hosts one show every two years, she said.

Both are part of the Garden Club of Ohio, and Gabriel said rules and regulations for standard flower shows are set at the national level. According to the program, the entries will be judged before the show is open to the public on Saturday.

When: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday; 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday

Where: Brecksville Community Center

How much: Free

What you’ll see: There will be three different types of exhibits in the show – the design division, the horticulture division and the educational exhibits. The program lists the different exhibits, with details on what they will entail. For example, the “Welcome to My Home Town” entries in the design division must be staged on white picket fences.

Why go: Gabriel said that the standard flower shows are often a new learning experience for people – and “a nice way to spend a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.”
