The following incident was reported by the Brecksville Police Department on Jan. 9. The information was compiled from a police report.
Police pulled over a speeding car on Interstate 77 at about 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 9, and soon learned that the driver hadn’t paid reinstatement fees for a driver’s license suspension.
But that ended up being the least of the 19-year-old Columbus man’s troubles.
Police found a backpack in the car with some interesting items inside, including cigarette rolling papers, a “water bong” and a gas mask that could be attached to it. At the station, the man tried to first deny that the paraphernalia was his, and then said he didn’t smoke because of health issues. Then he changed his story and said he smoked tobacco out of it.
The officer could smell burnt marijuana in the gas mask, and there was what looked to be marijuana residue inside the bong. The driver was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, along with citations for speeding and failure to reinstate.
