Pay-to-Participate Fees and Financial Overviews: On the School Board Agenda

The Brecksville-Broadview Heights Board of Education will meet Tuesday evening in the middle school auditorium. This meeting was rescheduled from July 23. Here are a few items on the agenda to note:
- There will be two executive sessions, which are closed to the public. The first will be at the start of the meeting. The meeting begins at 6:15 p.m., but the board is scheduled to enter into executive session minutes later. The regular meeting will resume at 7 p.m.
- The second executive session will begin at the end of the meeting. According to the agenda, the board will be discussing matters of negotiations in this session.
- There will be a discussion of the financial reports for June, the last month of the previous fiscal year. The new fiscal year began at the beginning of July.
- The board will discuss and vote on a variety of issues, such as the proposed rates for this year’s pay-to-participate fees for high school and middle school students. The fees for the high school range from $15 for the Art and Key clubs to $750 for varsity girls volleyball.

$750 for varsity girls volleyball? I've seen the supporting document and there is NO supporting information. It only shows what each group/organization/club/activity pays.
Where is the detailed itemized per student and justification of the cost?
Here's one for ya - Youth in Government costs $70 to participate, Key Club is $15 and Art is $20. Now are you telling me that it cost more to be a Youth in Government than it does to use Art supplies? I feel sorry for any parent paying these fees and does not request an itemized breakdown of their fee.
I'm not opposed to fees, I'm outraged of the cover up.

Do you think that every activity should have a set fee, regardless of expenses related to said extra-curricular activity?
I don't see Youth in Government needing uniforms, coaches, equipment, travel expenses, etc, that say Varsity VB does.
If you're going to compare apples, don't use oranges.

I'd also be interested in knowing if pay-to-participate fees will be refunded in part/whole if a strike impacts a sports teams season. For example, if games are cancelled, there would be extra money meant to cover transportation, officials, etc.

I think all pay to play fee's are unfair and discriminating to the students of families from modest incomes. Some can not afford to belong or play in a public school sponsored event. The cost of student fee's should be on the top line of the school systems budget, not the bottom . To separate students by who can and can not afford to participate in a public schools event should be considered unlawful.
