Readers Want a New Outdoor Pool in Brecksville

Don’t agree? You can still leave your thoughts in the comments.

Last week, we asked readers if they’d like to see a new pool or water park built in Brecksville.

Nearly 100 votes were cast in our poll as of Tuesday afternoon. Most people—41 percent—were in favor of a new outdoor pool at Blossom Hill. Just 12 percent wanted a water park built at the Community Center. And 25 percent of people opted for neither option, saying the city has other priorities to focus on first.

Both options are just ideas at this point. City Council discussed both in a special meeting on June 12. Members agreed that improvements to city roads, sewers and buildings should be the top priority for the city, but they also want to look at building some new amenities.

Here are a few ideas readers left in the comments. You can add your ideas below!

  • laura yurman: I say tear down VA building and build water park with slides, wave pool, and lazy river! How fun would that be??
  • dan prendergast: outdoor pool sb built adjacent to the rec center. We should have a "rec campus" where kids could hang out in the summer. Build it where the current ball diamonds sit. The ball diamonds could be relocated to Blossom, that way all the baseball facilities would be in the same place
  • Melanie Kirin: There is some $$ to be made with this investment. But, it has to be family focused. We spend lots of money in Strongsville because (1) the pool is open (2) the water is warm (3) there is zero entry depth. For as great as our city is, our swimming facilities do not cater to families. Our kids turn blue.
  • ara kallibjian: Development of retired VA campus should be a far higher priority, build business and employees and tax income is to follow, only then after a surplus should we invest in rec. center/pool proposals.

Mayor Hruby's option makes sense. It would be less costly to add on to the community center, and you can have a pool, and water park all at one location. I don't see the benefit of having two pools not at the same location, unless one is a water park and offers a alternative.

Thanks for your comment, Jack! Who agrees? Disagrees?

Where would the new pool be at the community center? There isn't much room there.

The idea the mayor suggested was that it would replace the current outdoor pool. There's more in this article: http://brecksville.patch.com/articles/roads-recreation-at-the-top-of-the-city-s-list-of-priorities
