Kids pedaled around a miniature town with the help of student volunteers on June 21, 2012.

While one group of children pedaled around an outdoor course, another group was coloring pictures, and yet another was listening to a story. But these children weren’t just having fun—they were also learning how to stay safe in a variety of situations.

Brecksville’s Safety Town began on Monday at Hilton Elementary School. There are two sessions each day: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Each session is filled with lessons and visitors who teach students about safety.

The program is open to students entering kindergarten, but some students who will be entering 1st grade take part, too, said Officer John Chrisopulos, who oversees the program. There are still open spots for the next round of Safety Town, which begins on July 9. More information is available on the school district’s website.
