One week from today, voters will decide whether to renew a 6.8-mill levy for the Brecksville-Broadview Heights City School District.
The renewal levy raises about $5.2 million for the district each year, and the majority of that goes to the general operating fund. This renewal levy makes up close to 10 percent of the district’s operating fund.
Here are some important dates to remember from the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections’ website:
- Aug. 3 is the last day to vote in person at the board office.
- Aug. 4 is the last day to request a vote-by-mail ballot. This must be done by noon.
- Aug. 6 is the last day to send in your vote-by-mail ballot. It must be postmarked by Aug. 6.
- Aug. 7 is Election Day. Interested voters can check their registration, find their polling place and look at a sample ballot on the board’s website.

Rarely does it occur that taxpayers have the opportunity to directly affect the contract negotiations of the public workers who serve them. But that is just the case for the citizens of the Brecksville/Broadview Hts. School District with the August 7th renewal levy. With federal mediated negotiations just starting and the school board already putting the renewal on the November ballot in case of failure in August, a NO vote would send a strong message to the teachers union, school board, state union representatives and the federal mediator, that taxpayers want significant cost controls in the new contracts. If the new contract instills fiscal discipline and steps are taken toward restoring high school busing and elimination of pay-to-play fees, I believe the electorate would vote to restore the renewal funding in November.

The Brecksville-Broadview Hts. School Board members have all stated that they support this renewal levy.
This taxpayer will only be happy with sginificant cost controls if it doesn't ruin my children's school day.

I will not vote for a levy until the teachers pay their fair share.

School Board says to support the school levy. How come you want to ruin our towns?

Please support the levy Donald. I don't think you have any kids in the disttict. You might feal different if you had something more immediate to lose. Please vote for this RENEWAl. It won't cost you more NOW and it might help us all later. Please support this so that there is time for our school board to make a good plan. Please don't make my kids pay for this.
