Scrap Metal Goes Missing and an Energetic Dog Causes Some Trouble: Brecksville Police Blotter

The following information was supplied by the Brecksville Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following incidents were reported by the Brecksville Police Department on Nov. 11 to 13. The information was compiled from police reports.

Missing scrap metal

A resident called police on Nov. 13 to report that some metal had recently gone missing from his property in the 12400 block of Chippewa Road. The resident told police that he thought someone had taken a trashcan full of scrap metal from the property the night before. He estimated that the can weighed about 120 pounds. Some old metal power tools had also gone missing the week before.

“Small amount of pot” still leads to charges

An officer spotted and pulled over a vehicle with just one working headlight on Interstate 77 at 12:44 a.m. on Nov. 12. It turned out that the driver’s license was suspended, so the 29-year-old Canton woman was placed under arrest. During the inventory of the car, the officer found a pipe lid that smelled like marijuana. The driver said she sometimes smoked marijuana and that she had “a pipe and small amount of pot” in her bag. She was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, driving under suspension and for just having one headlight.

Dog breaks window

An Independence woman was upset that a dog had shattered a car window on Nov. 11—but it wasn’t her window that was broken. While at a parking lot in the 9600 block of Brecksville Road, a dog in the car next to hers had jumped, breaking that car’s window and sending shards of glass into the side of her vehicle. The woman’s car had some chipped paint and scratches on the side window, and she needed an official police report to file an insurance claim.
