The Red Brick Store Will Be Repaired After Sunday’s Accident

The cause of the fatal accident is still under investigation.

The Red Brick Store suffered some when a car hit it early Sunday morning, but the building isn’t going anywhere, said owner Doug McCreery.

McCreery said the structural damage to the historic building wasn’t severe and can be repaired.

“The real tragedy is the young man who died,” McCreery said.

Scott Lawrence Wayne, 18, of Brecksville, was killed when his car hit the corner of the building at 8903 Brecksville Rd. in Brecksville early Sunday morning. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

“Our hearts just go out to the family,” McCreery added.

The car’s impact dislodged a stone from the building’s foundation, pushing it to the basement floor and knocking over two structural supports, McCreery said. Those must be replaced, and there is a visible crack in the corner of the building to be fixed. There are some temporary repairs in place, and the building should be completely restored in a few weeks.

McCreery said the landmark building, which has served as a grocery store, a furniture store and an office, has been in his family for years. Burns Financial Centre is now located in the building.
