Tonino’s Bistro Opening in the Former 2182 Brecksville Space

Authentic Italian restaurant expected to open its doors at 8918 Brecksville Road today.

The restaurant formerly known as 2182 Brecksville is opening with a new owner and a new name.

Tonino’s Bistro is expected to open today at 8918 Brecksville Road.

The new owner, Tony Calanni, is no stranger to the restaurant.

He was the bartender and general manager at 2182 Brecksville for the past three years.

Calanni isn't the only familiar face at his new restaurant: six of the nine employees worked at 2182 before it closed in October. It was expected to change hands a few weeks later, after some renovations.

Instead, the restaurant changed hands.

“We will bring a authentic product to Brecksville,” Calanni said. “I don’t’ know that anyone will match us.”

In addition to traditional fare, the restaurant will also feature steak Florentine; Osso Buco; mushroom risotto; Tuscan roasted chicken; and homemade fettuccine carbonara.

“We’re featuring authentic Italian cuisine from Angelina Calanni’s kitchen,”

Calanni said of his wife’s menu offerings.

And don’t forget about the premium wines and homemade desserts.

“It’s a casual Mediterranean bistro,” Calanni added. “A white tablecloth restaurant setting but with a casual feeling.”

The major renovations planned for 2182 didn’t work out, but the new restaurant will feature the work of local artist Leslie McCafferty.

Looking for the perfect date for Valentine’s week? You’d better call ahead at Tonino's, said Calanni.

The number is 440-792-4679.

I was looking forward to changes at 2182, because the last two times I was there, I felt the service was awful: impatient waiters clearing tables prior to dinners being finished and waitresses carelessly unaware of beers on tap. I felt I was more in the way of things than an appreciated customer. If the personnel stayed the same, I am not sure I will return.

Much of that had to do with different ownership, Lisa. The trickle-down effect is apparent in restaurants too. This new ownership may have some of the same staff, but the perspective on the new ownership creates for a happier, more welcoming environment.

It would be great to have another good choice in Brecksville, particularly in that space, as I live in the Old Town area and love walking to dinner. We'll probably give it another chance. Thanks!

I just ate there last night. My wife had scallops and I had Oslo bucco. It was first night it was opened and the food was great and although it wasn't very busy the service was excellent. Finally a great place to eat in brecksville.

If the owner is the same rude bartender from 2182, I agree with Kris - stay away, far, far, away. He is just terribly rude and inconsiderate to anyone who appears not to be one of his bff's. Awful service. :-)
