What’s Replacing Giant Eagle? Probably Not Trader Joe’s, Says the Mayor
Tell us what you’d like to see in the comments.
So, there’s still no definitive answer as to what’s going to replace Giant Eagle when it closes later this year.
But Mayor Jerry N. Hruby did say after the State of the City Wednesday night that the city is talking with some companies now. And he said that Trader Joe’s is not in on those conversations. (I know that was a big hope among readers when I asked last month.)
While we wait for more news on what will fill that spot in Brecksville Town Center, why not tell me what you’d like to see in that space?

That is unfortunate. A Trader Joe's opened up a few miles down from where I live in Naples, Florida -- and people in front and back of me in line came from Miami and Orlando, Florida just to stock up -- as it is the only one in Florida at this time. My point is that it is somewhat a "destination point" for shoppers, and would serve to bring people to the new and improved Brecksville shopping center!

Good suggestions, everyone! What else would people like to see?

Mustard Seed or Whole Foods Market would be good in Brecksville. It would keep people from the southwest suburbs from heading to Woodmere or University Hts every week.

It's sounding like a number of people are hoping to see some kind of grocery store replace Giant Eagle. Is that about right? Those of you who want a different kind of store there, why is that? Do you think there are enough local grocery stores?

I am sick that a Marcs may come to the center of Brecksville. We need a business which will bring a higher quality of merchandise, whether it be food or not. Brecksville used to have a number of high end businesses. The demographics have now changed and our community needs more high quality offerings to draw people to shop here instead of in other communities. If it is food it should be Whole Foods, Mustard Seed or Trader Joes.Trader Joes.
