What's Your Favorite Christmas Movie?

Vote in our poll and share your thoughts in the comments.

In the midst of all the holiday hoopla, do you stop every time you find Miracle on 34th Street on television?

Between the made-for-TV offerings, the newbies and the annual chestnuts, there are lots of opportunities to get some holiday spirit from the comfort of your couch.

Vote in our poll and share your favorites in the comments!

Do you need some modern humor, like Elf, or are you hooked on classics like It's a Wonderful Life and White Christmas when it comes to Christmas movies?

Which variation of A Christmas Carol has you wishing for roast goose and plum pudding, Alastair Sim's version or Scrooged?

Are there TV movies that you remember, even though few do, like The Homecoming (which led to The Waltons series) or The House Without a Christmas Tree?

Do you have a leg lamp, a la A Christmas Story?

If there's a beloved holiday movie you can't hit the remote fast enough to escape, share that, too. You're among friends.

I love most of these movies, but I gave my vote to A Christmas Story because of the fact that it was filmed in our own backyard. :)

But if I could add a movie to the poll, it would be National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Squirrel!

Did anyone know a Christmas Vacation 2 was made? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0367623/ I got it as a gag gift for my cousin. I can't wait to watch it and see how awful it is, haha.

Technically my favorite is Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas - but that wasn't a choice. I do love Elf though - so many good quotes came from that movie.

Elf is hilarious. But "It's a Wonderful Life" is a classic that we watch every year, so I'd say that's my favorite.

I love "White Christmas" even though I can't stand Bing Crosby. (He gives me the creeps.) Danny Kaye is hilarious and it's a really sweet movie!

Oh, I love "White Christmas." I make my kids watch it every year as we put up the Christmas tree. I really like Rosemary Clooney and the ending scene is just perfect.

How about Scrooged? Bill Murray is hilarious. "Hey. Are you glad to see me, or is this a shotgun in your pocket?". Hard to believe it not even his best roll in a holiday-themed movie. Groundhog Day would be a run-away winner there.

I voted for Bad Santa. If something about drinking and swearing at children around the holidays doesn't appeal to you, you might not have a central nervous system.

It's not necessarily a movie, but my sister and I try to watch Pee-Wee's Playhouse Christmas Special (featuring Little Richard, Cher, Grace Jones, Magic Johnson and all kinds of other celebs) every year. It's from 1988 and we absolutely love it.

Other than that, I'll always love "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "While You Were Sleeping," which is only a little bit Christmas-y.

By far and away, with no apologies required, the absolute essential Christmas Movie IS:

MR. MAGOO'S CHRISTMAS CAROL.

OMG! I LOVE Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol. I have it on a VCR tape and it makes me laugh and cry -- I thought I was the only one who loved this classic.

My Top 3, that aren't on this list for some reason:

3. Jingle All the Way
2. Santa's Slay
1. Santa Claus Conquers the Martians

I assume next year's list will be updated accordingly.

I vote for "Gremlins" - a movie that takes place at Christmas and has a very good holiday message: A weird animal with restrictive care instructions is not a good present.

Nightmare Before Christmas... some say it is a Halloween movie, I say it is a Christmas movie.. (and... of note: our very own Lakewood 'resident' has a bit part in Christmas Story; Hixon's Raggedy Ann... pay close attention to Ralphie after he is kicked down the slide. She is on the bottom right.

"Bad Santa" was the funniest if the most irreverent Christmas movie ever. My late husband chuckled about it for days after we saw it. It makes me happy to think how much a kick he got out of it.

"Holiday Inn" with Fred Astaire and ALL the Rankin-Bass specials, but especially "T'was the Night before Christmas" with the clock-maker and mouse families. I love the music of all of those! I am so thankful for DVD's because all these specials I used to anticipate playing on TV I can now watch whenever I want.
