The nominations for Brecksville Patch's People of the Year are in!
The following individuals were nominated for their involvement in the community. I’ve included the people who nominated them—and their reasons why. You can check back next week for profiles on the nominees and for a look at what made 2011 memorable for them.
- Don Faulhaber nominated Frank DeWolf, his co-chair of the Brecksville Bicentennial Committee. Faulhaber noted DeWolf’s involvement, current and past, in many groups around town, from the historical association to the alumni association to the fire department.
- Jack Kananian nominated Dominic Sciria, president of the Cuyahoga Valley Republicans, in part for his blog post explaining Senate bill 5 this fall. When asked, he also highlighted Sciria’s work on the city’s planning commission.
- Renee Torchia nominated her mother, Rachel Torchia, for stepping in as the Chamber of Commerce’s president. Renee Torchia said she was proud of Rachel for her enthusiasm in running the chamber, while still running her own business. “I think she has had such a positive influence with the Chamber, which I think has overflowed into being a positive attribute for the businesses in Brecksville!” Renee Torchia said.

All three of these individuals are amazing people who give much of themselves to the community we call home. I'm pleased to know them, work beside them, and see them recognized for their contributions. Thanks and blessings to all three of you!
