‘Super’ Super Moon to Make an Appearance Saturday

Full moon will be closest to Earth in nearly 20 years.

Grab your telescopes and cameras and look to the heavens Saturday night. That’s when we’re in for another “Super Moon.” Astronomers are saying that this Super Moon will be even more super than usual. “The last full moon so big and close to Earth occurred in March of 1993,” Geoff Chester of the U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington D.C. told USA Today. This Super Moon (a phrase coined by astrologer Richard Nolle in 1979) will appear especially large because the moment of perigee—when the moon is closest to the Earth in its monthly rotation—will coincide with the appearance of a perfectly full moon.  On Saturday at 11:34 p.m. ET, the moon reaches full moon status—when the earth, moon and sun are all in alignment. One minute later, at 11:35 p.…

Star Wars Day: May the Fourth Be With You

Share your memories and love of "Star Wars"

Happy Star Wars Day! Why is today Star Wars Day? Because of some delightful wordplay: "May the Fourth be with you." Star Wars has embedded itself in our common culture the way few movies do. Even people who aren't big fans of the movies know the Imperial March music means something wicked this way comes. Big cinnamon rolls can make one think of Princess Leia.  Share your memories of that galaxy far, far away. Did you (or your parents) wait in line for hours to see the original? Did you and your friends turn broom handles or sticks into lightsabers and have your own epic battles? Or maybe it was using your bikes for landspeeder races. When you say, "I love you," does your spouse say, "I know?" If you've ever used Yoda-talk with someone, …

Last Chance: Check Out “The Producers” at Brecksville Theater on the Square

The show is running for two more weekends.

Brecksville Theater on the Square premiered “The Producers” this past weekend, and theater fans have just two more weeks to check it out. According to a press release from the theater, the show follows a Broadway producer and an accountant trying to create a failure of a play to make some quick money—comedy, of course, ensues. Director Patrick Ciamacco said the usually large show is scaled down a bit for the Brecksville location, but that it still has a "giant, Broadway feel." He's been working with a very talented cast, he added. The next performances will be held on May 4, 5 and 6 and again on May 11, 12 and 13. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday performances begin at 2 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults and $12…

This year’s show features art from Ray Muniack, Leslie McCafferty and members of Studio B, said John Klassen, executive director of the center. All of the art displayed at the show is for sale, Klassen said. Interested buyers will be able to peruse pieces starting at about $30. Students to Perform “Grease” This Weekend

Travel back to the 1950s with the high school’s rendition of “Grease.”

Months of hard work will come to an end this weekend as Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School puts on “Grease.” The students began working on their spring musical with auditions in February, and rehearsals starting soon after. They put in a lot of work during that time, keeping up with homework and other afterschool activities before coming back to rehearse for a few hours every night, said parent volunteer Jean Farah. And there are a lot of students involved, from the actors and the orchestra to the students working behind the scenes on the lighting and the set. A musical “really calls for teamwork,” said retired music teacher Chuck Valley. Valley was instrumental in the district’s music program, and he came back to help with the …
