Don’t Worry About Robots; It’s Dogs That’ll Take Over America

Adweek recently proclaimed dogs to be “The New Kids” now that it’s been 2 years since the U.S. Census found more dogs (43M) in America than children (38M). Parent or NotMom, puppyitis is hard to resist.

In comparison, real children are, well, real children, and there’s a big, big difference. Argue otherwise and sparks can fly as parents bristle and Rex’s addled owner feels misunderstood.

Personally, I only have one over-the-top, dog-loving friend.  At Christmas she sends photocards of herself posing with her chihuahua and Rottweiler. It’s a one-woman flip-off to people who apparently don’t care if card recipients have never met their children; the kids are on the cover! When I first met her, this same friend spent more than $200 to get emergency care for a $7.99 parakeet.

She’s the same person who sent in the Adweek story. She really hates kid-dog comparisons. I hate to tell her she's living in one.

my dog fleabag is offended by your blog and fleabag wanted me to tell you that he is going to boycott the patch by only using the plain dealer at the bottom of his cage from now on

"Adweek recently proclaimed dogs to be “The New Kids”" And why not! Afterall, dogs at least show gratitude for what is given to them. You don't have to pay for college and they never want to borrow the car, although they occasionally ask to steer.

You forgot unconditional love, something we humans could use a lot of, including city hall...hint, hint...

I had a friend that used to treat her dog like her child. She cooked his food daily, it got prime seating in the bedroom, living room and all the photos around the house consisted of Cleo. It was her only child she used to say. Ugh. I love my doggies and since I have no children at this time, they are a great comfort to me and offer complete love, trust, and snuggles. But I realize they are dogs and they realize I'm in charge here. LOL
