Why Shopping Local Matters

We are your community. We live near you in your neighborhoods. We hire you, your family, friends and neighbors. Forty-three percent of the American workforce is employed by small local businesses. Shopping at local, independent retailers keeps more of your money in your community--we pay taxes to support local roads, schools, parks and libraries. Local business owners donate more and often to your children’s schools, churches and other local worthy community causes than non-local owners. We buy many of our supplies and much of our inventory locally. You will use less gas than traveling to the mall or other shopping centers, so you will have more money to actually spend:).

Our businesses create a unique community character and often restore local landmarks for their businesses (think Mary Ann's Candies or Vertical Runner). We actually create a real sense of community through the Brecksville Chamber of Commerce and the many connections we make through that organization. We help support and grow each other's businesses. E. g. I met with two co-owners of Brecksville businesses that are part of the Chamber the past few weeks to work on joint promotions together that will benefit our customers. Many others utilize the Chamber to do similar things or to support other local organizations such as the Brecksville Stables and other local non-profits. We partner together via the Chamber to bring more value to the customer.

Brecksville has many true retail businesses--e.g. Karen's Hallmark, Crochet Innovations, Davids, Finesse Jewelers, Brecksville Fine Jewelers, Framer's Gallery etc. etc.   Also, even within our service businesses we have a lot of retail--e.g. at my salon and spa we carry Aveda products, and we also sell jewelry designed and made by local resident and business owner Lila Tamulewicz (Chaco Designs), Creekside sells bakery and wine for great gifts, Brecksville Florist has a whole gift section stocked with products--many made by other local businesses. Having vibrant businesses locally such as these create character and prosperity for our city which impacts the value of your home. These are all important reasons to shop local.

Star Sports has built their business on relationships. Many of you know us as the BEES shop but we also want local businesses to know that we have hundreds of small businesses we work with to provide custom tshirts, polos, caps and more for less. Each year John and I volunteer in organizations like the BEE Athletic Boosters, BBHCSD PSOs, Brecksville Beautificaiton Committee and the Brecksville Travel Baseball organization. We like to give back and be involved which is one of the primary reasons we decided to leave the corporate world and begin Star Sports in 2000.

We hope you and your family will visit us during this holiday season to find your BEES spirit with gifts for under the tree or in stockings. We have over 30+ new items in store for you....check it out and go local this holiday season!

If you have a small business, we'd love to add you to our list of local clients like Creekside, Courtyard, Cozumels, Suburban Physical Therapy, Bartels, Brecksville Florist, East of Chicago, Rice's Landscaping, Broadview Hts Lions Club, and so many more! Come experience our personalized service, great pricing and quick turnaround.

Happy Holidays from our family to yours!
