Five Things to Know About Rush for a Cause Event

The annual event is slated to take place from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School.

The annual Rush for a Cause event is kind of a big deal. Here are some of the details you should know about. 

  1. Jim Tressel, legendary football coach and current athletic director at the University of Akron, will kick off the events, running from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School.
  2. Since 2009, the non-profit organization has helped about a half-dozen student-athletes injured in high school sports, providing tens of thousands of dollars in assistance.
  3. 108 youth football teams, 70 volleyball teams, 14 soccer teams and six rugby teams in a single day of scrimmages.
  4. There will be more than 3,000 youth athletes, and an estimated 12,000 in attendance for the annual event.
  5. Teams from Rochester, NY; Pittsburgh, PA; Erie, PA;  Akron, North Canton and numerous Northeast Ohio suburbs.
