Bicentennial Revving Up

Coming off Memorial Day, community looks ahead to Home Days in 3 weeks.

Brecksville celebrates 200 years of being Brecksville this year. The city is spreading the celebration throughout the year, and has a calendar dedicated to the Bicentennial celebration. Here are highlights of the summer’s planned Brecksville bicentennial events.

• June 10-12, June 17-19: The Music Man at Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School. Tickets $10. 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. The Music Man will be a combined production by the Brecksville Little Theatre, Brecksville Theater on the Square, Broadview Heights Spotlights and the Brecksville-Broadview Heights schools.  See of the tryouts.

• June 23-26:  Home Days begins at 5 p.m. Thursday and continues through Sunday. Featured events include silent auction, quilt presentation to the city, children's historical projects and square dancing. Saturday will be the Bicentennial Parade at 2 p.m., and Car Show 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Transportation Day Show is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Alumni Pancake Breakfast all weekend. Also June 26 is the Home Days Run, featuring a 1 mile family run and a 5K race.
Proceeds go to Run 4 UR Life and The Cuyahoga Valley Youth Organization.


• July 21: Library Historical Presentation – “War Heroes and the Home Front,”  Part I at 7 p.m.

• Aug. 14:  Brecksville Historical Corn Roast.

• Aug. 18:  Library Historical Presentation - “War Heroes and the Home Front,”
Part II at 7 p.m.

• Aug. 19-21: A Civil War re-enactment will re-create scenes from 150 years ago. A registration form for re-enactors is available online.

• Sept.  22:  Library Presentation – “Life of a Civil War Soldier,” 7 p.m.

More events await in the fall, including the Brecksville Historical Apple Butter
