Children Invited to Help Celebrate Brecksville's Bicentennial

The community-wide art exhibit begins on Friday and will run through the end of September.

Get your crayons, creativity and construction paper ready – the Brecksville Bicentennial Committee is looking for kids to help commemorate . 

Starting Friday, children from Brecksville and Broadview Heights can submit their best creative efforts memorializing the 200-year-old city to be placed in a time capsule. Margaret DeWolf, who is heading up the project, said she wanted to help children and teens get involved with the bicentennial celebration and learn more about the community. 

Children ages 8 through 18 who live in Brecksville or Broadview Heights are welcomed to submit some form of art commemorating the community. Children can only submit one entry.

“They have to pick out their very best,” DeWolf said.   

The submissions can be dropped off at City Hall on weekdays from the first of April through the end of September. The flier has some suggestions for children of different ages, from drawings of landmarks to poems, but DeWolf said they are just suggestions. Other types of submissions, so long as they fit the size specifications, are allowed.

And it’s not a contest. The entries will be displayed around both communities. According to the flier, the entries will be posted in the , the , the Brecksville , the Brecksville and the Broadview Heights City Complex. DeWolf said she’ll pick up the entries every few days to post.  

After the exhibit closes in the fall, the entries will be compiled into a book and placed in one of the , DeWolf said.
