Opera Arrives at Brecksville Theater on the Square

"Edison Invents" and "The Telephone" will be shown May 20 through 21.

For a change of pace, will present two one-act operas for the theater’s 37th season. According to a press release from the theater, this is the first time the theater has performed one-act operas like this.

When: 7:30 p.m. on May 20 and 21

"Edison Invents," written by Robert S. Cohen and Herschel Garfein, depicts Thomas Edison’s life using one male actor singing baritone. The newer opera debuted in 2005.

"The Telephone" tells a story through the song of a baritone and soprano about a man’s attempts to win the hand of a girl. This older storyline was written in 1947 by Gian Carlo Menotti.

The directors:

The production will be directed by Matty Sayre with the music director as Angela Bruzina. They plan to have the two operas performed back-to-back with a short intermission.
