Staff members at the Brecksville branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library have some suggestions for readers of all ages.

It’s the weekend, and you have some time to yourself. Maybe you’re looking for something new to read, but you don’t want to spend time looking for a good book. 

Why not try one of these suggestions from the experts at the ? This week’s adult recommendations were written by public services assistant Rachel Vaughn. The children’s book recommendation was written by public services assistant II, Karen Schmidt, of the children’s department.

The Sherlockian by Graham Moore

Author, Graham Moore, interlocks two great Sherlockian story lines in this debut mystery. Harold White is a Sherlock Holmes expert that has recently been recognized for his work. When another expert winds up dead after claiming to have found Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s missing diary, White puts Sherlock’s methods to use. Moore also gives Sir Arthur Conan Doyle his own thrilling plot: After Conan Doyle has killed off his most famous character he is determined to move on but instead finds himself hunting a serial killer with help from Mr. Bram Stoker.

Goodnight, Beautiful by Dorothy Koomson

Nova Kumalisi never imagined it would end up like this when she agreed to be a surrogate for her best friend, Mal, and his wife. When Mal’s wife, Stephanie, begins to question his relationship with Nova, Nova is left abandoned by both of them during her pregnancy and decides to raise Leo by herself. Seven years later, Leo becomes dangerously ill, forcing all of them to reevaluate the decisions they have made.

Scientists involved in the Census of Marine Life from 2000 to 2010 discovered thousands of new forms of sea life. This nonfiction book is packed with photographs of some of the strangest—from the blue ping-pong tree sponge and the spiral poo worm to the bone-eating zombie worm. For ages 6 to 10.
