The murder bore the signature of the Boston Strangler, an elusive serial killer that had been on the loose for a little more than a year already. The police were quick to close in on Roy Smith, a black man who had been hired to clean Goldberg's house that day. In a racially charged nation that was riding on the wake of JFK's assassination, the jury was quick to find Smith guilty of the murder on highly circumstantial evidence. But even with Roy Smith behind bars, the Boston Strangler murders continued. Who really murdered Bessie Goldberg and who was the real Boston Strangler? This true-crime novel takes a closer look at this controversial murder case.
