Fitting Low-Maintenance Yard Work into Your Busy Schedule

Learn lawn mowing tips and tricks and get time-saving lawn care advice that will give you the yard you desire, regardless of your busy schedule.
Having a nice lawn and garden can bring you joy and make you the envy of your neighborhood. But sometimes, maintaining a beautiful and healthy yard can feel like a full-time job. Some find it stressful fitting lawn care and maintenance into an already packed schedule. Check out the following time-saving advice for a low-maintenance yard and planning tools that will help keep your lawn weed-free and looking good with minimal effort.

Make a plan
In the spirit of reducing stress and making sure everything gets done, create a lawn maintenance plan to reference. Nothing extensive - it doesn’t require Venn diagrams and spreadsheets, just a simple plan with action items attached to dates. Sometimes the act of writing things down on a piece of paper or on the calendar can help clear your mind and reduce stress. This is also a great way to enlist help from your family and delegate tasks.

Put it on the calendar
When your schedule is packed, it can be hard to find time for the things you enjoy. If you want lawn care to fit in your schedule, it’s important to block out time in your calendar each month for lawn care and gardening. This will help you plan out your month and make sure time is reserved for your zero turn lawn mower. Also, make sure you set aside time for riding lawn mower maintenance, including the time it may take to read the lawn care advice necessary to make repairs.

Less is more
If time is not on your side, less is more when it comes to lawn and garden design. Using a riding lawn mower will certainly cut down on the time it takes to maintain your yard, but sometimes it helps to have less grass to mow. Consider creating a garden layout that will impact your schedule less. A low maintenance yard will be easier for you to care for, contributing to less stress at the end of the day, but you don’t have to sacrifice beauty for efficiency. Whether it’s a ground cover like clover or ivy, drought resistant plants that don’t need to be watered as much, or putting in patios, walkways and flowerbeds to reduce mowing space, there are several plants, grasses and landscape treatments that grow well with less attention.  Check with your local nursery for low maintenance plants, lawn care advice and lawn mowing tips and tricks (like spreading grass clippings for fertilizer) to help you save time.

Mind your equipment
With the right equipment and tools, lawn maintenance can be quick, easy, and carefree. If your lawn mower is  worn with age, it might be time to consider investing in new equipment to help you save time mowing and maintaining your machine. A zero turn lawn mower or other riding lawn mower can cut your mowing time in half. You can also consider a garden tiller, log splitter or other power tools to speed up outdoor chores that take up the most time. Also, make sure your equipment is well maintained and that your riding lawn mower blades are sharp; this will save you time in the long run.

Ask for help
With a low maintenance yard and the precision and speed of zero turn mowers, it shouldn’t take too long to cut your grass. You may want to recruit a few helping hands to get the job done quicker, though. Ask for help from your family and friends to create a more low maintenance yard going forward. Have a clean-up day to assign various tasks, from operating the riding lawn mower to turning over the flower bed.You may learn some new lawn mowing tips and tricks from the neighbors.
