Gardening Deals Around Brecksville

My kids are on spring break from school this week, and one of our favorite spring rites of passage is to start our seeds indoors at the end of March. Here are some deals around Brecksville to get you going for the gardening season.

Deal: The Master Gardeners of Cuyahoga County will be giving a free presentation on how to prune your trees, shrubs and evergreens properly.

Good Until: The program takes place on at 7 p.m. April 4. Seating is limited and registration is required. To register visit the library's website or call 440-526-1102.

2.  Plant Sale

Deal: 36-plant flats and 24-plant flats for $15.95, and 4-inch geranium and herb pots for $4. This is a fundraiser for their youth service project trip. They have quite a variety of plants available; check the order form on their website for more information.

Good Until: Orders must be placed by April 17. You'll be able to pick up your order at the Brecksville United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. until noon on May 7.

Deal: This store has some excellent deals on gardening odds and ends. For example, it has gardening gloves from $0.99 to $1.99, standard gardening knee pads for $2.99 and really rugged "Midwest" brand knee pads for $5.89. They also have some hand tools like trowels and cultivators for $1.99 to $12.99.

4. Marc's in Broadview Heights

Deal: All NK brand flower, herb and vegetable seeds are 40 percent off the suggested retail price. They have a variety of seed-starting kits, like herb garden and salsa garden kits, priced at $3.97. Peat pots for starting seeds indoors are $.72 for 24 pots in the 2 1/4-inch size. Eight-quart bags of seed-starting medium are $2.88.
