Pick Your Own Fruits and Veggies at a Local Farm

Fall begins this week and berries, apples and pumpkins are ripe for the picking.

The arrival of fall marks the beginning of harvest season. It’s a great time of year to enjoy the outdoors by visiting a farm and picking your own produce, visiting a farmer's market or taking a hayride. Here are some farms to visit in our area.

1. Heavenly Hill Farm, North Royalton

Owner Cindy Ellis says you can pick your own apples for $0.79 per pound. The Kid's Special for $6.22 consists of a hayride, bounce house, corn maze, and they get to pick a small pumpkin. Varieties of apples are available. They also have pears, honey from their hives and more. The address and apple harvest chart are available on the OhioApples.com website.

Pick your own apples in their orchards. They also have tomatoes, sweet corn, pumpkins, peaches, concord grapes and more in their farmer's market--details are available on their website--as well as hayrides.

Good Until: Apple picking available now through the end of October on weekends only.

5. Boughton Farm, Akron

Pick your own beans, peppers, eggplant and tomatoes! Many varieties are available, but the website recommends calling ahead to check availability and pricing.
