What can you do with your 3, 4 year old this summer?
If you have a preschooler, your summer will be busy! Trips to the zoo, park, pool and to the moon in your backyard await you this great summer. As you and your young explorer venture out this summer, don’t let the kindergarten readiness skills stay behind. It doesn’t have to be complicated. Instead, keep it as creative. Try these simple activities to get them ready for preschool in the fall:
1. Practice Cutting: Get your child a good pair of scissors and let them cut a lot! A beach pail with paper scraps with fill up fast as your child snips away. You can help them glue scraps onto paper to make unique collages. (To avoid “self-inflicted” new hair styles, make sure you are supervising!)
2. Pre-writing Practice: Practice these strokes with your child o | / \ J U. Use pencils, markers, crayons and chalk.
3. Practice Writing Names: Show your preschooler the correct writing grip. Have your child sign cards for special occasions. Provide lots of paper and writing instruments for writing play.
Most importantly, continue to explore with your preschooler! Cherish this time.
