Broadview Heights Kiwanis to Hold Presidents Day Party for Kids

The group will supervise sledding and story time at the Brecksville branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library.

Families looking for something for the kids to do when they're out of school for Presidents Day are in luck.  

The Broadview Heights Kiwanis is hosting a sledding party from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at the . President Cynthia McCarty said the library has a “great hill for sled-riding.”

Typically, sledding is not allowed on the library’s hill, Kiwanis member and branch manager Cathy Schultis said in an e-mail, so Monday’s party offers a unique opportunity for local kids. McCarty noted that someone will be assigned to watch children on the hill outside. And according to the National Weather Service, there is a chance of snow on Monday.

But even if this warm spell interferes with the sledding portion of the day, the event will also offer indoor festivities and refreshments. McCarty said a student from has volunteered to read stories with themes reminiscent of the , such as Little House on the Prairie. Brecksville is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year.  

The Kiwanis club’s mission is to make the world better, one community at a time, McCarty said. The Broadview Heights chapter has a goal of doing something special for children each quarter, and this event is a “nice family activity,” for the holiday, McCarty added.  Last year was the first for the sledding party.
