Procession Honors Sgt. Dennis E. Kancler

More than 20 local police departments and dozens of motorcyclists took part.

Brecksville Road was quiet following the funeral of Sgt. Dennis E. Kancler this morning. Clusters of people gathered along the sidewalk with flags and signs, waiting for the procession to leave and travel to the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.  

, the son of the , was a Marine who died in Afghanistan at the end of July. Brecksville Road was lined with people on Tuesday who turned out to pay their respects to the soldier and his family. 

Thursday’s procession took off slowly down the road shortly after 11:30 a.m., filling the street with the red and blue of blinking police lights. More than 20 local departments, from Cleveland to Put-in-Bay, were in attendance, as were a number of motorcyclists. The procession took nearly five minutes to pass, not including the cars that followed it down the road.
