Rachel Torchia was one of your choices for Brecksville Patch's People of the Year.

At the end of 2011, I asked you to nominate Brecksville Patch’s People of the Year. Now, I’m sharing what made 2011 memorable for your nominees. See , and check back on Monday for another profile.

Rachel Torchia’s 2011 was all about the .

Torchia took over as president earlier this year with the goal of “bringing the chamber back to the community.” As president, she tried to accomplish that by offering a wide variety of events and activities and by making people more aware of the chamber.

“It’s been a challenge, but it’s been a lot of fun,” Torchia said.

Torchia decided to bring back a number of events from the past, like the and , and create new, memorable programs, like taking part in parades and including a game for kids at their booth. It’s the little things that help the chamber be more a part of the community.

“Hopefully, I’m creating traditions for years to come,” Torchia said.

Torchia won't be the chamber's president in 2012, but she still plans to be active in the group. She's on the board and will continue to work on some of her favorite projects, like the "" events.

Torchia had plenty of work this year, too. Torchia is the president of , and she said she had a lot of previous customers coming back this year. She said she thinks the real estate market is beginning to turn around.

On a personal level, Torchia’s year was filled with ups and downs. Her mother passed away in the fall, but her family also welcomed a new baby.

Overall, Torchia said, her hectic year taught her that when there is time to spend with family and friends, “you enjoy and appreciate it more.”
