Travelers on Interstate 77 Near Brecksville Might See Slow Traffic Today

A portion of the southbound lanes is closed.

Anyone driving through Brecksville on Interstate 77 South might see a slow commute today.

Two of the three southbound lanes from state Route 82 and the turnpike are closed until further notice, said Amanda Lee, spokesperson for the Ohio Department of Transportation District 12, which serves Cuyahoga, Lake and Geauga counties.

A contractor and an ODOT engineer noticed a crack in a beam on the Valley Parkway overpass last night, and closed that portion of Interstate 77 southbound from about 11 p.m. until 7:30 a.m., Lee said. After 7:30 a.m., the department’s engineers and safety inspectors reopened the left lane after placing a temporary support under the overpass.

The department is currently working on a plan for a permanent solution, Lee said, but the right two lanes will be closed until then. Lee said the closure will likely affect any traffic south of Interstate 480, as the lane closures will slow down drivers.

The bridge on Valley Parkway is also closed until further notice, Lee said.
