Where’s the Best Place to Adopt a Pet?

Your suggestions are wanted!

Where did you get your furry best friend?

That’s right—I want to know where Brecksville goes to get its puppies, kittens and other pets. Other local Patches highlight pets up for adoption, and I’d love to be able to do the same. Brecksville doesn’t have its own animal shelter, though, so I want to know where residents turn when they want to give a dog or cat a new home.

I’ll reach out to the most-suggested animal shelter and see if I can help highlight those cute pets-to-be.

I mean, really—don’t you want or ? I know I do!

Paws and Prayers, based in Cuyahoga Falls, is a no-kill shelter/organization. They have many beautiful cats & dogs available for adoption (a lot of them have been rescued and just need to be loved), some are in foster homes waiting for their forever homes. They do adoptions at Petsmart in Chapel Hill and Macedonia. Their website address is www.pawsandprayers.org and you can view many of the animals there.

Thanks for the suggestion, Vicki! Macedonia isn't far from Brecksville—I'll keep them in mind. Where else do people go?

Canine Lifeline has some awesome dogs for adoption. I am a groomer at Bartels Pet Hospital and I have seen some wonderful dogs and cats that have been rescued. I have also seen some great pets come from the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter on Sweet Valley Drive. The APL is also a great place to get a pet. At Bartels, we have a lot of Cairn Terriers come in from the Colonel Potter Cairn Terrier Rescue, and they are almost always very sweet dogs. I cannot stress enough the benefits of rescuing a pet!

Lori, I got my dog at the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter, so I had thought of them, too. And the Canine Lifeline was mentioned by a reader on our Facebook page, so I'll be looking into their group. (http://www.facebook.com/BrecksvillePatch) Thanks for the suggestions! I'm planning to reach out to some groups next week after I get some more input from readers.

We get or Service Dogs that are in Training from all over. We have used Berea Animal Rescue Fund, Cuyahoga animal shelter, and Paws and Prays. The people at these shelters are amazing and care about the animals.
