Brecksville Event Raises $9,000 for New Food Pantry

A recent gala at St. Basil the Great in Brecksville brought in thousands of dollars to help feed the hungry in Cuyahoga County.

The final tally is in for a recent fundraiser in Brecksville: More than $9,000 was raised at a gala at St. Basil the Great in Brecksville last month.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Cleveland is looking to acquire a new food pantry, and is working closely with the Cleveland Foodbank to identify a location, according to John Litten, SVDP Cleveland executive director.

“Our goal is to establish an additional food pantry in a neighborhood that has the greatest need," Litten said in a news release.  "This will allow us to have the maximum impact on residents.”

More than 170 attended the May 4 event — including dignitaries, clergy members, sponsors and volunteers from the Society’s participating parishes.

Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald and his wife, Shannon, served as honorary co-chairs of the evening, which also honored SVDP’s many volunteers.
