An Argumentative Traffic Stop and a Lost Dog Search Both End at the Station: Brecksville Police Blotter

The following incidents were reported by the  from July 10 to 15. The information was compiled from police reports.

An argumentative traffic stop leads to charges
A traffic stop did not get off to a good start on July 15 when the driver didn’t pull over right away. At 2:37 a.m., an officer noticed a car going more than 20 miles per hour above the speed limit on Interstate 77. The car kept driving until it caught up with traffic. Once the officer approached the car, the driver tried to light up a cigarette—after the officer asked him not to multiple times—and argued over the speed at which he was driving.

When the officer asked the 28-year-old Bedford Heights man to step out of the car for some field sobriety tests, the driver was uncooperative before and during the tests and did not perform well. He was taken back to the station, where the arguments continued. The driver told police he did not care what they had to say, kept asking what he was charged with and swore. He at first agreed to take a breath test, but refused to repeat it when he was told the second sample he gave wasn’t sufficient. He was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, operating a vehicle under the influence test refusal, speeding and driving in marked lanes. He was also charged with possession of marijuana, because officers found two bags of the drug in his car before it was towed.

Lost dog search ends at the station
A search for a lost dog ended with a Brecksville resident in the back of a police car on July 14. At about 6:45 p.m., a pedestrian stopped a police officer, saying a man was looking for his runaway dog. The pedestrian said the dog had come up to her, describing it as a large, red dog that looked like a pit bull. Police found the 41-year-old Brecksville man and called in his identification while they looked for the dog. It turns out the man had an active warrant in Florida for a probation violation and that the police there wanted to extradite him. He was taken to the Brecksville Police Station to wait.

Expensive toy cars on someone else’s card
A Brecksville resident stopped by the police station on July 10 to report fraudulent credit card charges. Someone had purchased a remote control car from a company in Illinois using the resident’s husband’s name and their joint account and was trying to buy a radio control car when the resident learned of the charges. The first car cost $619.99 and was delivered. The second, which would have cost nearly $900, was stopped when a person from the company spoke to the resident.

The card was closed and the report was given to the detective bureau for further investigation.
