Brecksville Man Assaults Police Officer, Claims He Smoked Bath Salts

The has filed assault and vandalism charges against a man who escaped from police several times and damaged a police car. He later told police he had been smoking bath salts.

Kevin W. Molnar, 34, of Brecksville, was in police custody in connection with a domestic violence incident, said Detective Jim Lobenthal. 
According to the police report, it was about at 2:40 p.m. on Sept. 7 when he had an apparent seizure in a police department interview room.  

The report gave the following details:

Molnar suffered what appeared to be a seizure at about 2:40 p.m. while in the interview room. He was taken to a medical center in Sagamore Hills for evaluation. While there, he got out of his handcuffs and fled the room, assaulting a Brecksville police officer before being taken back into custody.

At 6:33 p.m., Molnar was being taken back to the Brecksville Police Department. He began to hit his head repeatedly against the sliding window in the police cruiser and then kicked out the rear passenger side window. He jumped out of the window onto Chippewa Road, near the , and ran toward a wooded area. He was caught by the officers.  

Molnar was yelling and swearing, telling police to shoot him and that he wanted to die. Fire and EMS soon arrived to re-evaluate Molnar. They decided he needed further treatment and took him to Marymount Hospital. 

During the drive and the hospital stay, Molnar calmed down and seemed to have trouble remembering the day’s events. He said he had been smoking bath salts during the previous five days. 

The X-ray and CAT scan at the hospital showed no injuries. The blood and urine tests were negative for illegal drugs. 

Public Information Officer for the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office Maria Russo said Molnar made an initial appearance in court on Sept. 9. Bond was set at $10,000. The Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office could not be reached Wednesday afternoon.
