Brecksville Police Blotter: A Joke Gone Wrong and an Altered Check

The following information was supplied by the Brecksville Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following incidents were reported by the Brecksville Police Department between June 22 and June 24. The information was compiled by police reports.

Charges of fraud:

A Brecksville woman reported to the police on June 24 that she had discovered that a check she wrote had been altered and cashed. The woman had written a check for her sons’ rent; when it was not cashed by the company, she contacted them, learned that they had not received the check and sent another one.

The woman checked her account a few days later and saw that both checks had been cashed. The first check had been changed so that it was made out to a person’s name. The woman said she and her sons had searched online for the person and did not recognize him.

A supposed joke turned bad:

A joke went wrong on June 22 when a witness called the police. The witness told the Brecksville Police Department at about 5:45 p.m. that she saw three men pointing a gun at a fourth man and getting into a minivan on Oakes Road. The officers found the van and pulled it over.

The four 19-year-old men—including the one who had the gun pointed at him—said it was a joke and that they were all friends. The gun found in the car was a pellet gun. Three of the men were from Brecksville and one was from Broadview Heights.
