Brecksville Police Blotter: Driving Under the Influence

The following incidents were reported by the Brecksville Police Department on Aug. 28 and 29. The information was compiled by police reports.

Driving under the influence

A 42-year-old man from Lisle, Illinois, was charged with driving under the influence at 2:16 a.m. on Aug. 29 after an officer saw him weaving on Interstate 77. The out-of-town man said he was driving from the Cleveland Hopkins Airport to his hotel in Akron and said he had a few drinks at the airport. He failed the field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol level above the legal limit on the portable breath test and on a later breath test at the station. He was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, operating a vehicle under the influence with a blood alcohol level above .08 and weaving.

Driving under the influence

A 27-year-old Cleveland man was charged with driving under the influence after an officer noticed him weaving and driving about 20 miles per hour below the speed limit on Interstate 77 at 2:21 a.m. on Aug. 28. The man told the officer that he didn’t have an operator’s license and that the spare tire on his car was making him drive slowly. He said that he had been drinking and said he was just trying to get everyone back to Cleveland after spending the night in Akron. The man was given a portable breath test and, later, another breath test. His blood alcohol level was above the legal limit, and he was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, operating a vehicle under the influence with a blood alcohol level above 0.17, driving under suspension and weaving. The two passengers were released.
