Brecksville Police Blotter: Failing to Stop—In a Truck or on Foot—Leads to Charges

The following information was supplied by the Brecksville Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following incidents were reported by the Brecksville Police Department from Feb. 14 to Feb. 15. The information was compiled from police reports.

Failure to stop in a truck
A pick-up truck rolled through the intersection at Barr Road and Valleybrook Drive without stopping at the stop sign at 10:05 p.m. on Feb. 15. An officer tried to pull the truck over immediately, but the driver continued until stopping at his girlfriend’s home in the 4800 block of Valleybrook Drive. The 29-year-old Conroe, Texas, man stepped out of the truck despite the officer’s requests to stay seated. The officer could smell alcohol on the driver and started to give him a few field sobriety tests—they didn't get very far. The man was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence and taken to the station. Once there, he refused to take a breath test or complete any field sobriety tests. He was charged with driving under the influence, failing to comply with a police order and a stop sign operation.

Failure to stop on foot
Police charged a 19-year-old Brecksville man with trespassing and resisting an officer after he refused to leave the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center at 2:26 p.m. on Feb. 14. First, school administrators asked the man, who wasn't a student, to leave. When police arrived, they began following the man, who was walking near a ravine near Fitzwater Road. The man began to run, and one of the officers chasing him fell and was injured. The man was taken back to the station, where police found marijuana cigarettes in his pocket and a cup with marijuana residue in his bag. The man was also charged with possession of marijuana.
