Suspicious stops lead police to prostitution and solicitation charges
A suspicious stopped car led to charges of prostitution on Oct. 13.

A police officer went to check on a suspicious car parked off of South Edgerton Road around 8:30 p.m. The man told the officer that he had pulled off the road because of the rain, asked for directions to Interstate 77 and left. About 20 minutes later, another officer saw the car driving around Sanctuary Circle. Finding this a bit suspicious, the officer pulled the car over to talk to the driver. He said he had picked up his wife—who had not been in the car on the first stop—from a house nearby.

The officer had the 37-year-old Cleveland woman get out of the car. The officers noticed something in her pocket, which turned out to be two bags of marijuana and $160. She told the officers that the man she had been visiting is someone she has sex with, and that her husband doesn’t know. The officers found provocative photos and condoms in the car, which they searched before going to visit the man in question. They later found a suitcase with other sex-related items in it, as well.

At first, the 44-year-old Brecksville man tried to tell police that the woman had been by to visit his sick dog. After police told him they had already talked to the woman, he told them that they also had sex and that afterward, he paid her $160. The two had met online about a year earlier.

The woman was charged with prostitution, possessing criminal tools and possessing marijuana. The man was charged with solicitation. The husband was released without charges.

Man gets surgery, doesn’t pay for it
A representative from stopped by the station on Oct. 13 to report that a patient hadn’t paid for his surgery the month before. The representative said that the patient, a 29-year-old Cleveland man, had gotten eye surgery at the beginning of September, and a 31-year-old Avon woman wrote a check to pay for it. Payment for the surgery is due beforehand. A couple of days after Clear Choice deposited the $3,054 check, they were told that there was a stop payment on it. Since then, Clear Choice has spoken to the man twice, left him two messages and sent him a letter asking for another form of payment. He has yet to pay, and his number has since been disconnected.

Dirty license plates lead to drug charges for passenger
Police charged a 41-year-old Paris, Ohio woman with possession of marijuana on Oct. 8. An officer followed a car on Interstate 77 that had a back license plate that was so dirty, it wasn’t initially visible. The officer went to search the car, asking one of the passengers with a previous offense if she had anything on her. She showed the officer a tin box with marijuana in it. The officer also saw some rolling papers and other paraphernalia. She was charged with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. The driver, a 39-year-old Canton man, was cited for display of plates.
