Brecksville Police Blotter: Unusual Voicemails and Torn Mail

The following information was supplied by the Brecksville Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following incidents were reported by the from Dec. 24 to Dec. 28. The information was compiled from police reports.

Voicemail Causes Alarm
An unusual voicemail got the police’s attention on Dec. 28. The receptionist for a Brecksville Road dentist called the police that morning to report a message the office had received a few days earlier. The office had been closed for the holiday.

The message was from a woman, who was slurring or mumbling her words, trying to report a head injury to a male. The woman said she had called an EMS. The message ended with a scream.

The police took a recording of the message for further investigation by the detective bureau.

Resident Notices Mail Torn Open
A Brecksville resident called police on Dec. 24, saying that it looked like the family’s mail had been opened. A neighbor had found a check made out to the resident’s daughter underneath a car in the driveway on Dec. 23. The next day, the resident found more torn mail under cars in the driveway.

The police visited the home in the 10100 block of Highland Drive and found Christmas cards with checks that had been torn open, along with an untouched bill and some “junk mail.” The resident had called family members to cancel the checks, and the police passed along information to the detective bureau and the United States Postal Service.
