Brecksville Man Charged in Fatal Avon Accident

The accident killed a construction worker and closed I-90 for five hours.

A Brecksville man has been charged in the death of a Campbell, Ohio man killed while working in an Avon construction zone Sept. 12.

Anthony J. Rose Jr., 50, of Brecksville turned himself in to the Avon Police Department at 2:45 p.m. on Sept. 27. He has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, a second-degree misdemeanor, and assured clear distance ahead, a minor misdemeanor, in the death of construction worker Peter Maglis, 63, of Campbell.

The Sept. 12 accident at the Nagel Road interchange project involved two vehicles.

Rose was driving a 2006 Jeep Liberty. Nathan Reese, 34, of Avon was driving a 2008 Honda Odyssey that was also involved in the accident. No charges have been filed against Reese.

According to a police report, Avon Police received a call just after 9 a.m. of a motor vehicle accident in the construction zone near I-90 and Nagel Road, where a new interchange is being worked on.

Maglis was struck by one of the vehicles. He was transported by the fire department to the Avon Emergency Care Center where he was later pronounced dead.

I-90 westbound was shut down from the Crocker Road exit to the SR 83 exit for five hours following the accident.

Rose was given a personal bond and is scheduled to appear in the Avon Lake Municipal Court on Oct. 4 at 8:30 a.m.
