Cab Driver Responds with Pepper Spray: Brecksville Police Blotter

An unpaid cab ride takes a turn for the worse

A cab driver called police at 11:05 p.m. on May 17, saying that a customer was failing to pay his bill after being taken to the 10300 block of Highland Drive. The driver told police he had been threatened twice by the customer and had, in response, sprayed the customer with pepper spray. He later said he had sprayed him once while they were in the car, after being threatened, and once outside the car, when the man was kicking the cab.

The customer, a 38-year-old Brecksville man, was lying on the ground when police arrived. He appeared intoxicated, could not stand up and kept making verbal threats at the driver. The customer’s wife had gone inside to look for cab fare when the cab arrived, but they did not have it. The man was charged with menacing, petty theft and disorderly conduct by intoxication. He fell asleep at the police station.
