Donation Jar Stolen and Man Found in a Tree Lawn: Brecksville Police Blotter

The following incidents were reported by the Brecksville Police Department on Aug. 22 to 27. The information was compiled from police reports.

Donation jar stolen from a bank
A KeyBank, route: {:controller=>"listings", :action=>"show", :id=>"keybank-85"} --> employee called police on Aug. 22 to report that a man had stolen a donation jar of money. Police searched the area with no luck. Police viewed a surveillance video that showed a man in a baseball cap and long-sleeved shirt under a T-shirt walk in at 12:20 p.m. and take the Race for the Cure donation jar. He was in the bank for 34 seconds.

On Sept. 5, Channel 19 ran photos of the suspect. The CrimeStoppers show received information about the suspect, which they passed along to the police, and the suspect’s mother called the department. The suspect, a 21-year-old Richfield man, turned himself in later that day. He said he had problems with drugs, and that he had originally gone to the bank to take out money to buy drugs. When he saw that the bank tellers weren’t paying attention to the jar, he took the opportunity to steal it. He said there was about $130 inside, which is close to the estimate given by a bank employee. The man was charged with petty theft.

Slashed tire
A Brecksville resident called police on Aug. 27, complaining that one of the tires on his vehicle had been slashed over the weekend. Police visited the home in the 9200 block of Pineview Oval and saw a puncture in the side of one of the tires. The man said he had recently moved in, and that the only neighbors he had trouble with were the children living behind him. They kept walking through his yard, even after he put up caution tape.
