Man Gets Charged with Drunken Driving After Leaving Local School: Brecksville Police Blotter

The following incident was reported by the Brecksville Police Department on Dec. 5. The information was compiled from a police report.

An employee from Hilton Elementary School called the Brecksville Police at about 6 p.m. Dec. 5 to to report that a man who seemed drunk had picked up his sons from school.

The 54-year-old Brecksville man pulled out onto Brecksville Road, failing to yield the right of way to through traffic and almost caused an accident. The officer then pulled him over.

As the officer approached the car, the man attempted to get out. The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol on the man, but the man said he hadn't had anything to drink all day.

The man's eyes were bloodshot, and he was slurring his speech.

The man failed several sobriety tests. He couldn't follow directions, and he lost his balance. The man said several times, "I can't do these tests," according to the report.

He was taken to the station for further testing, where he was offered an additional opportunity to take some sobriety tests. The man refused. Results of his breath test indicated his blood alcohol level was 0.313.

The man was charged with driving under the influence, with operating a vehicle while under the influence with a blood alcohol concentration more than .204 and two counts of endangering children. He also received a citation for not obeying the traffic signal.
