Marijuana-Filled Traffic Stops and Possible Vandalism Reported: Brecksville Police Blotter

The following information was supplied by the Brecksville Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following incidents were reported by the Brecksville Police Department from June 28 to July 1. The information was compiled from police reports.

Possible vandalism reported
Police received a call on July 1 about possible vandalism to an outdoor water fountain in the 6300 block of Rockledge Drive. The fountain had been knocked over and may have been damaged. The owner said the fountain was fine at 4 p.m. on June 30, and he first noticed the damage at 6 a.m. on July 1. A neighbor said he did not hear or see anything unusual during that time. The resident was told to call the department if he saw or heard anything strange, or if there was any more damage on his property.

License plate? No. Illegal substances? Yes.
An officer pulled a car over on Brecksville Road at 5:15 p.m. on June 29 after noticing that it didn’t have a front license plate. After looking at his license, the officer asked the driver, a 21-year-old Parma man, if there was anything illegal in the car. The driver said no. When the officer asked to search the car, the driver paused and eventually said that he had “some pot.” The officer found a bag with marijuana and a pipe with marijuana residue inside. He was cited for the missing license plate and charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

No driver’s license, but he did have drugs
Police pulled a car over on Chippewa Road at 11:20 p.m. on June 28 after watching it speed and swerve across the center line. The stop didn’t get off to a good start—the driver threw a lit cigarette butt on the ground as the officer approached, prompting a discussion about the litter ordinance. The driver, a 26-year-old Sagamore Hills man, then told the police that he did not have a valid driver’s license because he had not paid reinstatement fees a few years ago. When asked if there was anything illegal in the vehicle, the driver said yes, describing a container with marijuana and a pipe with marijuana residue that police later found. He was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, not having an operator’s license and failure to drive in marked lanes.
