Speeding on I-77 Leads to Bigger Problems: Police Blotter

The following information was provided by the Brecksville Police Department

Two people who drove too fast on I-77 Sept. 8 — one hitting the 112 mph mark — found themselves with bigger legal issues after they were stopped by police.

About 9:15 a.m., an officer clocked a car at 90 mph and, as he followed, saw the vehicle go up to 112, a report said.

The driver, 47, of Pennsylvania, told the officer he wasn't sure where he was, saying "I think I'm on 77" and saying he'd been driving around for three hours.

He showed signs of impairment, failed field sobriety tests and was found to have a blood-alcohol content of .141, a report said.

He was charged with drunken driving.

About 11:45 p.m., police stopped a car going 78 mph and smelled burnt marijuana in the vehicle, a report said.

The women in the car admitted to smoking it earlier, but officers could not find any in the car.

However, a passenger had a warrant from Fairlawn for trespassing. She was arrested and held for Fairlawn police to pick her up.
